These two have their own setting - it’s named “Always use ClearType for HTML” and can be found in the Internet Options window, inside the Advanced tab, under the Multimedia section (image below) - which allows them to switch the font rasterization method independently of the operating system. As you can see, most browsers rely on the operating system’s rasterization setting, with the exception of Internet Explorer versions 7 and 8. The table above summarizes the situation. Microsoft can license it from MAC OR come up with an equivalent solution that can provide the same (if not better) font smoothing. This tweak applies text to be displayed more anti-aliased using CSS3 property. Im sorry to say it but ClearType Technology doesnt compare at all with its competitor technology in the MAC. 'The windows browsers render the fonts based on the normal sub-pixel rendering without implementing Font smoothing, anti-aliasing as noticeable as Mac OSX. (browser has a setting independent of the system setting) Modified and ported Mac OSX Font Rendering by proxxy (from Opera on Presto engine).
